Across Texas, bookstores continue to grow, adapt, and endure, opening new doors, rallying community support, and celebrating the stories that bring us together. In a season of Honor, we recognize these spaces not just for what they sell, but for how they uplift readers, writers, and communities across the state. Read on!
Azle
The Reading Rabbit Bookshop won the 2025 Rising Star Award from the Azle Chamber of Commerce.
Denton
Patchouli Joe’s Books & Indulgences announced that they have found a new location that will allow the bookstore to remain in downtown Denton. The new location at 216 W. Mulberry is being renovated, and the store will reside temporarily at True Leaf Studio during construction. Anyone interested in supporting the store can contribute to their GoFundMe as well.
El Paso
Literarity Book Shop owners Bill and Mary Anna Clark announced that the shop will be closing in the next few months. They began as the only independent bookstore in El Paso when they opened in 2017.
Fate
Leather & Bound held their grand opening celebration the weekend of April 17-19. Events included a Fantasy Soiree, ribbon cutting, and book fair with author signings and flash tattoos.
Friendswood
The Gilded Page Literary Lounge plans to open their bookstore near the end of May. Featuring books, coffee, and wine, the store also plans to serve goods from Roland’s Swiss Pastry & Bakery.
Georgetown
Lark & Owl Booksellers announced in March that financial setbacks and extreme construction in the area have placed pressure on the store. Supporters flocked to their Givebutter campaign to provide support. They are also seeking partnerships to “stabilize the bookstore long term.”
Leander
Lioness Books had to postpone the opening of their bricks-and-mortar location after a fire in their storage facility. The store began as a mobile bookstore and was on track to open their first permanent location in early April. Anyone who would like to help them in their rebuilding process can contribute to their GoFundMe campaign. Additionally, the Leander Chamber of Commerce is accepting book donations on behalf of the store.
San Antonio
Honey Flutters Teas & Books celebrated its grand opening in early March. In addition to books, they offer curated tea and book boxes in a variety of genres and themes. They also host a monthly Books, Brews, & Banter book club via Zoom.
Waxahachie
The Wyrd & Wand Archive opened in February. Inspired by a “lifelong love of stories, coupled with a desire to create something meaningful,” the owners hope the store becomes a community for people who want to connect over their love of the magic of books.
