TEXAS-CONNECTED

What Does "Texas-Connected" Mean to Us?

At Lone Star Literary Life, we celebrate all things bookish in the Lone Star State—and that includes the many stories and storytellers who are Texas-connected. But what exactly does that mean?

Well, we like to think of it as having a little Texas in your bones—or maybe just in your bookshelf. Here’s how we define it:

A Person is Texas-Connected If They’ve:

  • Been born and raised in Texas. (We see you, folks who can recite the Texas pledge from memory.)

  • Lived in Texas for at least two years. (That’s enough time to develop a favorite breakfast taco spot and know which way to turn your fan in August.)

  • Earned a degree from a Texas college or university. (Gig ’Em, Go Frogs, Wreck ’Em, Hook ’Em—we don’t play favorites… publicly.)

A Book is Texas-Connected If:

  • It’s written by someone who meets at least one of the criteria above,
    OR

  • It’s set in Texas. (Whether it’s the dusty plains, piney woods, Hill Country, or the big city lights of Houston or Dallas—we’re here for it.)

And here’s the best part: you only need to meet one of these criteria to qualify. We like to keep things simple around here. After all, being Texas-connected isn’t about proving your credentials—it’s about belonging to a storytelling tradition as big and bold as the state itself.

So whether you’re a lifelong Texan, a proud transplant, or your novel’s main character is navigating life in a West Texas town—we’re glad you’re here. You belong in our literary family.
